Getting to Know You, Getting to Know All About You!

Updated: Apr 6, 2020

Hello!

So lovely of you to drop by!

This week, I have tried putting my serious business lady head on. Part of that involved Kurtis (that’s my husband!) and I discussing my marketing plan (spoiler: I don't have one!) And, to use the jargon, we started talking about having a story.

I don’t have a story.” I stubbornly proclaimed

Yes. You do.” He retorted

Friends, things got serious after that!

I knew I wanted this blog post to be a chance for us to get to know each other a little better but how much is too much?

How do you draw the line between being open and creating relationships, and oversharing?

Well let’s find out… Once Upon A Time...

I’m Vicky! (Victoria, Vic, Vics, whatever – I’ll answer to them all!)

Want my ‘professional’ bio? You can find it here.

My favourite cake is coffee & walnut. I love a G&T but it has to be proper one - none of this pink nonsense!

I overuse exclamation marks!...!

We’ve recently taught our cats a trick and I don’t think I’ve ever been prouder of an achievement!

I get excited by anything – if someone buys me a donut, if I see a cat in the street, when Harry Potter is on the TV. I’m very open to celebrating the things I love.

But, if we are going to get personal, I’m a sensitive ol’ soul and a professional worrier. People talk a lot about how baking helps them with their mental health, but to be quite honest, it put a massive strain on mine when I first started out.

I lost my dad when I was 23. Being fortunate to have such a close family, we muddled through but the loss made me anxious. I started working on Tallulah’s Bakery soon after and gosh, those first few years were hard. When I first started I was so awful to myself: constantly terrified that people would hate what I was creating, and was just generally nervous and a control freak.

Luckily, the worst of it has passed.

I still have my moments, as I think most people do when they do something creative, and I am constantly working on it - I love a self-development book! But rather than getting stressed by the creativity and the process, I have learned to enjoy it and learned to harness it as something that soothes my soul.

Am I oversharing? Maybe! But it seems just as important that we can bond over who we are, as well as bonding over a piece of coffee cake (or pick another flavour - I know coffee is a controversial choice!)

My goal is to make Tallulah’s Bakery a place where you can feel free to order the cake of your dreams (whether that be something totally outlandish or a delicious chocolatey chocolate cake) and to be able to share in, and encourage, your enthusiasm and excitement.

I thought to be able to do that I would need to be the most outgoing person in the room but that doesn't come so easily to me - although I'm working on it! Meeting new people at events or fairs, or when I meet you for the first time at a tasting or a collection is going to give me a few nerves! And it’s ok if you're nervous too; we show a whole heap of kindness and find a way to make it work for everyone.

But at the same time, please know that once we get talking about your cake ideas, you can be sure I am going to light up and enthuse about it non stop. And throughout the whole process I will go as far as I can to give you the best possible experience and create you a cake fit for a fairy tale.

The End.

If you feel like it, I would love to hear your story or, if you’d rather, your favourite cake flavour! You’re more than welcome to leave a comment or find me in the usual social media places.

Much love and thanks for listening!
